F1 : Latest English Movie Review

F1 : Latest English Movie Review

Plot:
F1 follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a former Formula 1 driver who had a promising career derailed by a near-fatal crash. After years of reflection and recovery, he is drawn back into the world of racing when an old friend, Ruben (Javier Bardem), offers him a shot at becoming a world champion again. Sonny returns to the sport, this time mentoring a young, talented, but hot-headed rookie, Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris). The film follows Sonny's journey to bring the team together, battle through races, and overcome personal and professional challenges to secure victory.

Overview:

  • Genre: Sports Drama, Thriller

  • Release Date: June 27, 2025

  • Director: Joseph Kosinski

  • Cast: Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon

  • Rating: 3/5

Performances:

  • Brad Pitt: As Sonny Hayes, Brad Pitt is charismatic and delivers a performance that mixes quiet intensity with the drive of a veteran racer. His portrayal of a superstar still holding onto his edge despite aging works well, though the character remains somewhat one-dimensional.

  • Damson Idris: As the young rookie, Joshua Pearce, Idris plays a hot-headed, ambitious driver with an undercurrent of insecurity. His performance provides a stark contrast to Pitt’s Sonny, but the character does not evolve as much as one might expect.

  • Javier Bardem: Bardem brings charm and depth to his role as Ruben, the F1 team owner. However, his character’s purpose is largely to push Sonny back into the racing world.

  • Kerry Condon: As Kate, the first-ever female technical director in F1, Condon brings strength to the role, though her character is often overshadowed by the male leads.

Technical Aspects:

  • Direction: Joseph Kosinski’s direction is sharp when it comes to the high-octane race sequences, showcasing the intensity and strategy involved in Formula 1 racing. However, the film struggles with pacing in the non-racing scenes, which feel formulaic.

  • Cinematography: The cinematography is stunning, especially during the race sequences. The high-speed action is captured with precision, creating a thrilling and visually engaging experience.

  • Editing: The editing is tight during the race scenes, ensuring that the action flows seamlessly. However, outside of the racing moments, the film occasionally drags, and the emotional moments feel forced.

Music:

  • The film’s soundtrack adds to the adrenaline-pumping feel of the race sequences, with a mix of high-energy tracks that complement the fast-paced action. The music does a great job of enhancing the suspense during the races but is less effective in the quieter, more dramatic scenes.

Positives:

  1. Brad Pitt’s Charisma: His performance as Sonny Hayes keeps the film engaging, even when the plot starts to feel predictable.

  2. Race Sequences: The racing scenes are thrilling and visually spectacular, capturing the excitement and intensity of Formula 1.

  3. Cinematography: The film does an excellent job of showcasing the speed and danger of Formula 1 racing, with breathtaking shots.

  4. Pacing during Races: The race sequences are fast-paced and gripping, drawing the audience into the thrill of competition.

Negatives:

  1. Predictable Story: The plot is formulaic and doesn’t offer many surprises, making it easy to predict the course of events.

  2. Character Development: While Brad Pitt’s character is well-developed, other characters, particularly Damson Idris’ Joshua Pearce, lack depth and fail to evolve meaningfully.

  3. Lack of Emotional Depth: The film struggles to create a deep emotional connection with the audience, especially in its quieter moments outside of the racing.

  4. Underutilized Supporting Characters: Characters like Kate (Kerry Condon) and Ruben (Javier Bardem) are underutilized, with their potential left untapped.

Analysis:
F1 is a film that excels in its portrayal of the thrill and danger of Formula 1 racing, with Brad Pitt giving a solid performance as a former champion returning to the sport. The race sequences are the highlight, thrilling audiences with their intensity and visual grandeur. However, the film’s plot is predictable, and its emotional depth is lacking, making it less impactful than it could have been. The supporting characters are underdeveloped, and while the film provides an interesting look into the world of Formula 1, it doesn’t dive deep enough into the personal stakes of the characters or the darker side of the sport.

Bottomline: Thrilling Races, Formulaic Plot

Rating: 3/5
