Plot
Dan John does not believe in luck. He treats betting as mathematics and considers himself capable of calculating every possible outcome. His confidence appears justified as he repeatedly wins, but one disastrous bet changes his life.
A gang pursues Dan, leading to a violent car crash in which his arm is damaged beyond recovery. He subsequently receives a hand transplant, seemingly offering him an opportunity to rebuild his life.
The new hand, however, appears to possess memories and impulses belonging to its deceased donor. It begins acting independently, drawing Dan into a dangerous conflict involving a cricket-betting syndicate and unfinished business from the donor’s past.
The mystery surrounding the hand drives the engaging first half. Once the donor’s identity is revealed, the narrative shifts into an extended flashback and eventually becomes a familiar revenge story.
Overview
I’m Game reunites Dulquer Salmaan with Malayalam cinema in a fantasy-action thriller directed by RDX filmmaker Nahas Hidhayath. The film begins with an imaginative premise, stylish action and an intriguing supernatural mystery before abandoning its distinctive identity for a conventional revenge drama.
Dulquer’s performance, Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography, Chaman Chakko’s editing and Jakes Bejoy’s score give the first half energy and technical polish. However, the extended flashback and predictable second half prevent the movie from becoming the ambitious genre experiment it initially promises.The film was released theatrically on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
Performances
Dulquer Salmaan delivers a convincing performance as Dan John. He effectively captures the character’s transformation from a confident and arrogant gambler into a disturbed man struggling to control his transplanted hand.
His restrained heroic moments work particularly well. Small gestures, physical movements and subtle changes in expression generate more impact than conventional mass-dialogue scenes.
Antony Varghese makes an impression during his extended cameo as Vicky. His performance provides emotional weight even though the character’s lengthy backstory slows the narrative.
Mysskin brings an intimidating presence to the antagonist, while Kathir and Kayadu Lohar provide solid support. However, several supporting characters remain thinly written and receive limited opportunities to influence the story.
Technical Aspects
Nahas Hidhayath handles the chase sequences and early action episodes with confidence. Hyderabad is presented through shadows, grime and moody locations, creating a visual identity different from the city’s brighter portrayal in films such as Premalu.
Jimshi Khalid’s cinematography is one of the film’s strongest elements. Dark frames, fluid camera movement and carefully staged fights strengthen the fantasy-thriller atmosphere.
The multilingual dialogue flows naturally between Malayalam, English, Tamil and occasional Telugu. The writing also contains moments of self-aware humour, including a playful reference to Dulquer’s pan-India career.
The technical confidence weakens after the interval because the screenplay becomes increasingly dependent on commercial-film clichés.
Music
Jakes Bejoy’s background score complements the movie’s dark and energetic mood. The music is particularly effective during chases, fight sequences and moments when the transplanted hand begins behaving independently.
The score helps generate tension without overwhelming the visuals. It also enhances the restrained hero-elevation scenes, giving Dulquer’s movements and action beats greater impact.
While the music remains consistent, the predictable second-half writing limits its emotional effectiveness.
Editing
Chaman Chakko’s editing is sharp during the first half. The hand-transplant sequence and the moments in which the limb begins acting independently are unsettling, tightly constructed and among the film’s most memorable passages.
The pacing deteriorates after the interval. Vicky’s extended flashback interrupts the central mystery and reveals too much about the narrative’s eventual direction.
Once the film returns to the present, repetitive action sequences replace suspense. A shorter flashback and tighter final act could have preserved the urgency established during the opening portions.

Analysis
I’m Game contains the ingredients for a distinctive fantasy-action thriller. Its supernatural hand-transplant concept creates mystery, while Dulquer’s performance and the strong technical team establish an engaging world.
The film’s central problem is its lack of confidence in that unusual idea. Instead of exploring the psychological and body-horror possibilities, the screenplay explains the mystery and retreats into a conventional revenge formula.
The betting subplot could have provided meaningful commentary about addiction and consequences, but it feels inserted rather than developed organically. Familiar devices—including rain during tragedy, predictable villain reactions and a conventional den fight—further reduce the originality.
I’m Game is nevertheless a step towards a stronger Malayalam comeback for Dulquer. The first half demonstrates what the film could have achieved, but the second half chooses safety when the story needed to become stranger and more daring.
Bottomline: Wasted Potential
