Ohio McDonald’s average 3.25 stars

McDonald’s restaurants in Ohio received one of the lowest average customer ratings in the United States, according to a study based on Google reviews from locations across the state.

Researchers analyzed 346,236 reviews covering 193 Ohio restaurants. The locations posted a weighted average rating of 3.25 out of 5, tying Wisconsin and South Carolina for the nation’s third-lowest statewide score.

The study reviewed McDonald’s locations in the 10 most populous cities in each state. Statewide results were calculated by weighting each city’s average score according to the number of restaurants in the sample.

Toledo records Ohio’s lowest rating

Toledo had the lowest-rated McDonald’s locations in Ohio, with an average score of 3.06. Parma recorded the state’s highest city average at 3.38, followed by Lorain at 3.37.

Nick Warren, head of ecommerce at Restaurant Furniture, said the differences between Ohio cities indicate that restaurant-level management and operations can play a major role in customer experiences.

Michigan ranks last nationwide

Michigan had the lowest statewide average in the study at 3.15, based on 185,666 reviews across 105 locations. Georgia ranked second-lowest at 3.24, based on 241,209 reviews from 114 restaurants.

Hawaii led the national rankings with an average rating of 3.77 across 48 locations and 68,580 reviews.

City results show wide variation

Auburn, Alabama, posted the lowest city average in the study at 2.86, about 6.5% below Toledo’s score. Dothan, Alabama, had the highest average within that state at 3.55.

Roswell, New Mexico, recorded the nation’s highest city average at 3.97, even though New Mexico ranked seventh among states overall. The findings show that statewide averages may not reflect every local market, with service, staffing and restaurant-level operations potentially contributing to differences in customer ratings.
