Hutto Ranks Among Top 15 Fastest-Growing U.S. Cities

The City of Hutto has officially been recognized as one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States, landing the 13th spot on a new list released by the U.S. Census Bureau. The data reflects population changes from 2023 to 2024, during which Hutto grew by over 9 percent, making it the only city in Central Texas to break into the top 15.

What was once a small, quiet town on the outskirts of Austin is now experiencing a development boom fueled by an influx of new residents and commercial interest. For longtime residents like Jena Dubon, the transformation is surreal. “Twenty years ago, a Wendy’s was a big deal. Now we have major chains and even international companies setting up here,” said Dubon, who is now a realtor with On Air Realty.

Major Infrastructure and Tech Corridor Growth

The city’s strategic location near U.S. Highway 79 and the 130 Toll Road, along with proximity to Samsung’s massive development to the east, is contributing to this explosive growth. “We’re in the heart of a tech corridor. Hutto offers affordability and convenience that make it attractive for both families and corporations,” Dubon added.

City Engineer Matthew Rector confirmed the pace of expansion, saying, “I knew we were growing, but being ranked 13th in the nation is still a surprise.” Rector and his team are currently working on key infrastructure projects, including expanding water treatment plants, roadways, and transportation systems, in anticipation of even more residential and commercial demand.

Economic Development Director Cheney Gamboa echoed the sentiment, noting a steady influx of companies. One such company, rumored to be Swedish and tied to Samsung, is setting up shop directly across from Hutto’s City Hall. “Office space is growing here while other metro areas see declines. We’re becoming a serious hub for innovation and growth,” said Gamboa.

The city’s Co-Op District, once a small-town marketplace, is being reimagined into a vibrant urban center that merges Hutto’s roots with modern amenities. Balancing that charm with rapid development is a key focus for local leaders. “Our goal is to maintain quality of life while ensuring infrastructure meets rising demands. It’s about sustainable growth,” said Gamboa.

While neighboring Georgetown did not make this year’s top growth list, it still reached a milestone by surpassing a population of 100,000 in 2024. Meanwhile, Hutto continues its upward trajectory, symbolizing a broader trend of Texas cities outpacing national averages in population growth and economic expansion.

As more families and businesses flock to Hutto, city officials say the focus remains on thoughtful planning, community engagement, and ensuring the infrastructure keeps pace with opportunity. With its strategic location, rising reputation, and booming real estate market, Hutto is no longer just a town to watch it’s a city shaping the future of Central Texas.
