Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from California, has been identified as the suspect arrested following the shooting incident near the White House Correspondents’ Dinner attended by Donald Trump. The incident occurred outside the venue, triggering an immediate response from security and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities confirmed that Allen attempted to breach a security checkpoint while carrying multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives. Officers from the United States Secret Service intervened, leading to an exchange of gunfire. A Secret Service agent was struck but survived due to a bulletproof vest. The suspect was subdued and taken into custody before reaching the main event area.
Preliminary investigations suggest Allen acted alone, though officials are continuing to examine his background and possible motives. He is expected to face multiple charges, including assault on a federal officer and use of a firearm during a violent crime. Authorities have emphasized that the swift response at the security checkpoint prevented a potentially larger threat.
