US Charges Kataeb Hezbollah Commander in Jewish Attack Plots

US law enforcement officials announced Friday that Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi, 32, a senior operative of the Iran-backed militia Kataeb Hezbollah, has been charged for plotting attacks targeting Jewish communities in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Prosecutors described Al-Saadi as a “high-value target” responsible for multiple international terrorism incidents, directing assaults on US and Israeli interests in retaliation for ongoing Middle East conflicts involving Iran.

Alleged Attacks Across Europe and Canada

Court documents reveal that Al-Saadi coordinated at least 18 attacks in Europe and two in Canada. Incidents included the non-fatal stabbing of two Jewish men in London on April 29, arson attacks on synagogues, Israeli-owned businesses, and Jewish schools in Amsterdam, Munich, and other major cities. Investigators said Al-Saadi shared videos of these attacks online and admitted involvement in conversations recorded by an FBI informant. In Canada, authorities cited a March 10 shooting at the US Consulate in Toronto, which caused no injuries.

Domestic Threats in the United States

Al-Saadi allegedly plotted attacks on US soil, including a synagogue in New York and Jewish centers in California and Arizona. Court filings state he paid $3,000 to an undercover agent to execute the New York attack before his arrest. He faces six charges, including conspiracy to provide material support to Kataeb Hezbollah and the IRGC, conspiring to support terrorist acts, and conspiring to bomb a public place.

Background on Kataeb Hezbollah

Kataeb Hezbollah, a US-designated terrorist group operating in Iraq, has targeted US interests repeatedly in the Middle East. The group was linked to the 2020 attack on an Iraqi military base that killed an American contractor and the 2026 kidnapping of an American journalist during heightened regional tensions. Authorities emphasized that Al-Saadi’s arrest is a critical step in preventing further international terrorism and protecting Jewish communities globally.
