Police respond to Dublin Sports Grounds shooting
A married couple in Dublin, California, has been arrested on suspicion of murder after their 40-year-old son-in-law was fatally shot near a city sports complex.
Dublin Police Services said a sergeant driving near the Dublin Sports Grounds at about 3:08 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, noticed a man lying in the parking lot. Around the same time, dispatchers began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an incident in the area.
Officers and emergency medical personnel responded and found Dublin resident Jonathan McKinsey suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
Witnesses help police locate two suspects
Police said information provided by witnesses helped officers quickly identify and locate two people who remained nearby.
Authorities arrested Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, both 77 and residents of Dublin. Dublin Police Services identified Zhang and Chen as a married couple and McKinsey's parents-in-law.
Both were arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
Police said there were no outstanding suspects following the arrests and no known continuing threat to the public.
Jonathan McKinsey had engineering and teaching background
According to information listed on his public professional profile, McKinsey worked in engineering leadership and also taught computer science part time.
His profile listed teaching roles at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley.
Police have not released additional information about the circumstances involving McKinsey and his parents-in-law before the shooting.
Dublin murder investigation remains active
