Sara Gilson murder suicide shocks Oklahoma
Authorities in Collinsville, Oklahoma, are investigating the deaths of social media influencer Sara Gilson, also known as Sara Duffey, and her estranged husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey. According to police, officers responded to a late-night 911 call on Thursday and discovered both individuals with apparent gunshot wounds inside their residence. Investigators currently believe the incident may have been a murder-suicide, although the case remains under active investigation.
Police identified Gilson as 43 years old and Duffey as 48. Officials have not announced a final determination while forensic examinations and additional investigative work continue. Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still being reviewed before the case is officially closed.
Protective order filings raise concerns
Court records show Gilson sought a protective order on June 10, requesting that Duffey stay away from the family home. In her filing, she stated that he had access to firearms, had allegedly threatened suicide and had left the area following serious allegations made against him.
On the same day, another woman also filed a protective order. According to court documents, she accused Duffey of inappropriate conduct involving her teenage daughter. The filing alleged that a fellow youth basketball coach witnessed inappropriate physical contact. Additional allegations claimed the teenager later reported receiving inappropriate text messages, invitations to a hotel room during basketball trips and money in exchange for remaining silent. Those allegations were reportedly forwarded to police in Owasso for investigation.
Authorities have not announced criminal charges related to those allegations, and the claims remain separate from the homicide investigation.
TikTok allegations gained widespread attention
Nearly a month after filing for legal protection, Gilson shared a TikTok video that attracted significant attention online. In the video, displayed with on-screen text, she referenced discovering disturbing allegations involving her estranged husband. The post quickly circulated among her followers and generated widespread discussion across social media platforms.
Although the video became widely viewed, investigators have not confirmed whether it played any direct role in the events that followed. Officials continue to examine all available evidence while reconstructing the timeline leading to the shooting.
Collinsville shooting investigation continues
According to police, dispatchers received a 911 call shortly before 11:15 p.m. They reportedly heard a woman screaming, followed by a sound resembling a gunshot before the call disconnected. Minutes later, a young boy reached another emergency dispatcher from a nearby neighbor's home and reported that his stepfather had shot his mother.
Responding officers entered the residence and found both Gilson and Duffey deceased. Police said Gilson's son was placed into protective custody before being released to another parent who was not involved in the incident. Gilson is survived by her son and daughter.
Law enforcement officials continue to process evidence, interview witnesses and review forensic findings. Police have emphasized that the investigation remains active and that additional information will be released when appropriate. The reported allegations referenced in court filings have not been adjudicated in court, and investigators have not indicated whether they were directly connected to the fatal shooting.
