Navpreet Singh sent to 10-day police custody after deportation

Navpreet Singh was sent to 10 days of Delhi Police custody on October 3, 2026, after being deported from Türkiye. Investigators say they plan to question him over an alleged narcotics network and pursue leads across four Indian states.

NEW DELHI — A Delhi court on Saturday, October 3, 2026, granted Delhi Police 10 days of custody of Navpreet Singh following his deportation from Türkiye, allowing investigators to question him over an alleged narcotics trafficking network.

Rouse Avenue Court grants 10-day police custody

Singh was produced before Rouse Avenue Court after being brought back to New Delhi. Delhi Police sought his custodial remand, describing him as a key figure in the alleged narcotics network.

Police told the court that Singh injured himself after arriving at the airport and subsequently underwent a medico-legal examination. Investigators also said he had been declared a proclaimed offender in February 2022.

Police said they intend to take Singh to Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh as part of the investigation.

Delhi Police investigate alleged narcotics network

Investigators are examining Singh's alleged role in a wider drug-trafficking operation and his suspected connections with other people linked to the case.

The allegations against Singh have not been proven in court, and the investigation and related judicial proceedings remain ongoing.

Government confirms Navpreet Singh deportation from Türkiye

India's Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed on October 3 that Singh had been brought back from Türkiye. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Singh had obtained Turkish citizenship under the identity Navab Virk and accused him of trafficking heroin and methamphetamine from Afghanistan into India.

The government said Indian agencies identified and tracked Singh before securing his deportation. The Home Ministry also reiterated the government's stated objective of dismantling narcotics cartels by December 2029.

Multi-state investigation expected to continue

Delhi Police are expected to use the 10-day custody period to question Singh about the alleged trafficking network, examine his suspected contacts and pursue investigative leads in the four states identified before the court.

Further developments are likely to depend on what investigators establish during questioning and whether additional evidence, arrests or court proceedings emerge from the multi-state probe.
