Binance $6.3 Billion Hack: 95% of Stolen Assets Covered

Binance has covered approximately 95% of the assets affected by its $6.3 billion crypto hack. The exchange has begun restoring withdrawals while strengthening customer funds protection. The FBI has linked the massive cryptocurrency theft to North Korean hackers.

Binance Stolen Asset Replenishment Reaches 95%

Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has announced significant progress following a major security breach on October 29, 2026. The attack involved approximately $6.3 billion in stolen digital assets, raising serious concerns across the cryptocurrency industry.

In its October 31 update, Binance reported replacing 90% of the affected assets. By November 1, that figure had increased to approximately 95%. The company allocated more than $6.34 billion from its available resources to address the losses and restore affected asset balances.

The remaining 5% involves less-liquid cryptocurrencies that are harder to purchase in large quantities. Binance said it would continue acquiring these assets through market transactions and over-the-counter trading.

Binance Crypto Withdrawals Resume After Security Checks

Binance began restoring cryptocurrency withdrawals in phases on November 1 after temporarily suspending the service to assess the security breach.

The initial phase included Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB, Solana, XRP and several other digital assets. The exchange conducted additional security checks before reopening access to affected networks.

Although withdrawals have resumed across the initial group of networks, Binance continues assessing other services before restoring full functionality.

FBI North Korea Hacking Investigation Identifies TraderTraitor

The Federal Bureau of Investigation attributed the cryptocurrency theft to TraderTraitor, a North Korean state-linked hacking operation, in an official statement dated October 31.

According to the FBI, investigators observed stolen assets being converted primarily into Ethereum. Authorities warned that the attackers could use decentralized finance platforms and instant swap services to move the funds through further transactions.

The FBI is working with other US agencies and cryptocurrency businesses to identify suspicious transactions and prevent additional movement of stolen assets.

Binance Customer Funds Protection Remains a Priority

Binance has assured customers that it will absorb the financial impact of the attack rather than transfer the losses to users.

The company said major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether and BNB, were fully backed by reserves. It also published updated reserve information to support transparency.

Binance has used corporate resources and its Secure Asset Fund for Users as part of its response. However, replacing stolen assets does not mean the stolen cryptocurrency itself has been recovered.

Cryptocurrency Exchange Security Concerns Continue

The $6.3 billion crypto theft highlights the growing risks facing cryptocurrency exchanges and digital asset investors worldwide.

While Binance continues its digital asset recovery efforts, the investigation has renewed attention on blockchain security, exchange safeguards and the importance of protecting customer holdings.

Binance has promised a detailed report after completing its investigation. The findings could provide important information about how the attackers gained access and what security improvements may prevent similar incidents.
