How Pakistan Can Still Qualify for T20 World Cup Semi-Finals After Defeat to England

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup journey faces a significant challenge after a narrow two-wicket loss to England in their second Super 8 match, leaving them with just one point from two games. Harry Brook's stellar 100 guided England to a win, securing their place in the semi-finals, while Pakistan's hopes now depend on a win against Sri Lanka and favorable results from other teams in their group.

For Pakistan to make it to the semi-finals, they must win their final Super 8 match against Sri Lanka on February 28. A win would bring them to three points, but that might still not guarantee qualification. To make things work in their favor, Pakistan would need England to beat New Zealand, and Sri Lanka must defeat New Zealand as well. If these results align, Pakistan could advance as the second-best team from Group 2.

However, if New Zealand wins at least one of their remaining matches, Pakistan’s qualification would depend on net run rate (NRR). A win against Sri Lanka would put both Pakistan and New Zealand at three points, with the team having the better NRR advancing to the semi-finals.

In the event that Pakistan loses to Sri Lanka, their journey would end. But in a highly unlikely scenario where their match is washed out and Sri Lanka’s game against New Zealand is also interrupted, the qualification will again depend on the NRR among Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand. With the points table tightly packed, Pakistan's path to the semi-finals remains full of uncertainty, but they still have a chance to turn things around with the right results.
