Pawan Kalyan Announces Ex-Gratia After Vizagsteelplant Blast Kills Eight

Pawan Kalyan Announces Relief After Vizag Steel Plant Blast

Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday expressed deep grief over the deadly explosion at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which claimed eight lives and left several workers injured. The tragic incident took place on Monday evening after a large quantity of molten steel reportedly leaked from the SMS-2 and STC-3 heat facility inside the plant.

Pawan Kalyan visited the injured workers who are undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in Visakhapatnam and assured their families that the government would extend full support. He said the accident was deeply painful and described it as an unprecedented tragedy in the history of the plant. According to him, such a specific type of accident has not been recorded earlier in the steel plant’s operations and is rarely heard of in similar industrial operations elsewhere.

The Deputy Chief Minister announced a comprehensive ex-gratia and support package for the families of those who died and for the injured workers. For regular employees who lost their lives, their families will receive Rs 1.72 crore along with monthly pension benefits. For contractor workers, the compensation will be Rs 45.7 lakh along with a monthly PF pension. In addition to this, an ex-gratia amount of Rs 25 lakh will be provided for each deceased employee.

Compensation And Job Support For Families

Pawan Kalyan also announced that one family member of each deceased worker would be given permanent employment. This decision is expected to provide long-term financial security to the families who lost their earning members in the accident. He further assured that the entire cost of medical treatment for the injured workers would be borne by the government.

The Prime Minister has also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Under this, Rs 2 lakh will be given to the next of kin of each deceased worker, while Rs 50,000 will be provided to the injured. Earlier, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy had announced Rs 25 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh each for the injured employees.

Nara Lokesh’s visit to Visakhapatnam has also brought attention to the seriousness with which the state government is treating the incident. Along with Pawan Kalyan’s hospital visit and relief announcement, the government’s response is being closely watched by workers, unions and families who are seeking not only compensation but also accountability and stronger safety measures.

The accident has created shock across Visakhapatnam and Andhra Pradesh, especially among the families of steel plant workers. The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant is one of the major industrial units in the region, and thousands of families depend on it directly and indirectly. A tragedy of this scale has raised serious questions about safety systems, risk monitoring and emergency response procedures inside high-risk industrial facilities.

Safety Concerns Rise After Molten Steel Leak

The molten steel leak has brought attention to the dangers faced by workers in heavy industries. Steel plant operations involve extreme heat, heavy machinery, pressure systems and hazardous materials. Even a small failure in safety control can lead to major loss of life. The deaths of eight workers have now made industrial safety a major concern for employees, unions and the public.

Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the accident and identify whether it was caused by technical failure, equipment malfunction, human error or gaps in safety procedures. A transparent inquiry will be important because the families of the victims and the injured workers deserve clear answers. Beyond compensation, strict steps are needed to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The tragedy has also brought focus to the difference between regular employees and contractor workers in industrial units. While compensation packages have been announced for both categories, the incident shows how vulnerable contract workers can be in high-risk work environments. Ensuring proper training, protective equipment, insurance coverage and emergency support for all categories of workers must now become a priority.

For now, the immediate focus remains on medical treatment for the injured and support for the families of the deceased. Pawan Kalyan’s visit to the hospital and the announcement of financial aid have brought some relief to the affected families. However, the larger challenge is to ensure accountability, strengthen safety standards and rebuild confidence among workers at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant.

The Vizag Steel Plant blast is not just another industrial accident. It is a reminder of the human cost of unsafe working conditions and the risks faced by workers who keep major industries running. The families of the eight workers who died will need long-term support, while the injured workers will require complete medical care and rehabilitation. The government’s response must now go beyond compensation and focus on justice, safety and prevention.
