Kyiv missile attack kills 10

A Russian ballistic missile hit a private training ground in the Bucha district, north of Kyiv, where a defense industry event was being held. Ten people were killed and close to 100 were injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Emergency crews completed rescue operations at the site, which was located near residential buildings. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said an event involving a large gathering should not have been held there under wartime conditions.

Investigations examine event security

Ukraine’s prosecutor general opened a war-crimes investigation into the Russian attack and a separate criminal inquiry into possible failures in organizing and conducting the gathering.

The Ukrainian Council of Defense Industry said representatives of the country’s defense sector were present but denied organizing the event. The gathering was hosted by an association representing drone manufacturers, according to Reuters.

Sloviansk airstrike kills five

A Russian aerial bomb attack killed five people and injured nine in Sloviansk, in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region, officials said. A second strike on the city later Friday injured 16 additional people and damaged residential buildings.

The deaths in Sloviansk raised the confirmed toll from Russian attacks across Ukraine that day to at least 15.

Ukraine expands attacks inside Russia

Russian authorities said a Ukrainian attack on an industrial facility in the Kirov region killed six people and injured more than two dozen. Ukraine also struck Wildberries logistics facilities in the St. Petersburg area, saying the sites supported Russian military supply chains.

Zelenskyy said Ukrainian intelligence and partner countries had information that Russia had prepared missiles for another large-scale assault that could occur within 48 hours. The warning placed renewed attention on air-defense readiness as investigators examined the Russian strike and the security decisions surrounding the Kyiv-region event.
