Nitin Nabin Becomes BJP President, Youngest Leader To Head The Party

Nitin Nabin formally assumed charge as the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, creating history as the youngest leader to head the party at the age of 45. He succeeds JP Nadda, who is currently serving as a Union minister. The ceremonial change of leadership took place at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and several senior leaders of the party. The event marked a generational transition in the BJP’s top leadership structure.

Before taking charge, Nitin Nabin visited prominent religious places in Delhi including Jhandewalan Temple, Valmiki Temple, Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place, and Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, reflecting his inclusive and spiritual approach. He was accompanied by Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva and Minister Parvesh Saheb Singh Verma. Soon after his appointment, the Union Home Ministry granted him Z-category security based on an Intelligence Bureau threat assessment, with CRPF commandos assigned for his protection.

Nitin Nabin is an undefeated five-time MLA from the Bankipur Assembly constituency in Bihar and the son of late BJP leader Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. Known for his strong electoral performance, he has consistently won with large margins, including a 60,000-vote victory in his first bypoll in 2006 and over 51,000 votes in his latest term. He gained national attention as BJP co-in-charge of the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly elections, where the party defeated the Congress government, and later repeated the success in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by winning 10 of 11 seats in the state.

With roots in the RSS, Nitin Nabin is regarded as an organisationally disciplined leader with strong ideological commitment. Born in Ranchi, he is married to Deepmala Shrivastava and has two children. His election as BJP president was unopposed, with Prime Minister Modi and several senior leaders proposing his name. Earlier, he served as the working president of the BJP and held key portfolios in the Bihar government before resigning to take up his national role. His appointment is widely seen as a strategic generational shift aimed at strengthening the party’s future leadership and organisational depth.
