Modi, UAE president discuss West Asia tensions and Strait of Hormuz security
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, as tensions continue to escalate across the West Asian region. The discussion focused on regional stability, recent developments in the Middle East crisis, and the importance of safeguarding critical global energy routes.

During the call, both leaders underscored the need to ensure safe and uninterrupted navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor for global oil supplies. The conversation took place amid growing concerns over maritime security following a series of attacks that have raised fears of disruptions to international trade and energy flows.

Prime Minister Modi conveyed India’s strong condemnation of attacks targeting the UAE that have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to infrastructure. He also expressed solidarity with Abu Dhabi during a period of heightened regional uncertainty. In addition, Modi extended advance Eid greetings to the UAE president, reaffirming the close diplomatic and cultural ties between the two nations.

The exchange came shortly after reports of missile and drone strikes across multiple West Asian countries, including the UAE, in response to recent military actions involving the United States and Israel. The situation has intensified geopolitical tensions, with implications for regional peace and global markets.

Both leaders agreed on the urgency of restoring peace, security, and stability in the region. They reiterated their commitment to continued cooperation and dialogue to address evolving challenges and to promote a stable environment for international navigation and economic activity.
