Trump Backs Vivek Ramaswamy's Controversial Ohio Campaign Ad
President Donald Trump has backed Vivek Ramaswamy's controversial Ohio campaign ad featuring Amy Acton's estranged mother. The advertisement has triggered criticism from both parties, including Governor Mike DeWine, while Vice President JD Vance has defended Ramaswamy.

Trump Supports Vivek Ramaswamy Campaign Ad

On October 22, Trump defended Ramaswamy's campaign strategy in a Truth Social post, encouraging him to continue airing the advertisement despite mounting criticism.

Trump praised the commercial and strongly criticized Acton, accusing her of dishonesty. He also attacked DeWine for opposing the advertisement, exposing disagreements among senior Republicans over the party's campaign tactics.

Ramaswamy's campaign has confirmed responsibility for the advertisement and announced plans to spend approximately $4 million promoting it across Ohio.

Amy Acton Mother Advertisement Controversy

The commercial features Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, accusing her daughter of lying about her childhood experiences and urging voters not to support her.

The advertisement has attracted particular criticism because Acton has publicly discussed surviving childhood abuse and homelessness. Court records show that her stepfather was indicted for sexually assaulting her when she was 12.

Acton and her brother have condemned the campaign's decision to use her estranged mother's statements. The mother's allegations should not be treated as established facts.

Mike DeWine Criticizes Ramaswamy Ad

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine described the advertisement as deeply troubling and urged Ramaswamy's campaign to withdraw it.

DeWine said the family's documented history made the commercial especially inappropriate. However, he clarified that he would not withdraw his endorsement of Ramaswamy and would continue supporting the Republican ticket.

Trump responded by criticizing DeWine's opposition to the advertisement, highlighting divisions within the party.

JD Vance Defends Ohio Campaign Strategy

Vice President JD Vance also defended Ramaswamy and criticized fellow Republicans who publicly objected to the advertisement.

During an Ohio campaign appearance, Vance urged party members to stop complaining about the commercial. His position contrasted with other Republican leaders who questioned the decision to involve Acton's family history.

The conflicting reactions have turned the advertisement into a broader debate over political campaign tactics.

Ohio Governor Election Campaign Backlash

The controversy comes as Ramaswamy and Acton compete in Ohio's November 2026 gubernatorial election.

Ramaswamy's campaign has defended the advertisement as an effort to question his opponent's credibility, while Acton's supporters argue that it exploits painful personal experiences.

The dispute has shifted attention from policy disagreements to questions about personal attacks and political accountability. It remains unclear how the controversy will affect voters as election day approaches.
