The confirmation comes after a security incident at a high-profile media dinner held at the Washington Hilton. Authorities said a suspect, identified as Cole Tomas Allen, attempted to breach a secured screening area while carrying multiple weapons. Law enforcement officials reported that he approached the magnetometer checkpoint armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and knives before being stopped.
During the confrontation, a Secret Service agent was shot but survived due to protective gear. Senior officials, including President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, were safely evacuated from the venue as a precaution.
Investigators are continuing to review evidence collected at the scene, including written materials, to determine the suspect’s motive. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche indicated that the attacker may have intended to target high-level officials, though the investigation remains ongoing.
