India has achieved a major milestone in defence technology after the Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully tested a multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence system and conducted the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range. The successful trials are being seen as a strong boost to India’s indigenous defence programme and long-term strategic preparedness.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the demonstrations were carried out through three consecutive flight tests on June 10 and 11. The trials showcased advanced systems designed to counter emerging missile threats and strengthen India’s maritime strike capability.
The successful DRDO missile defence test comes at a time when countries are investing heavily in advanced air defence, missile interception and naval warfare systems. For India, the latest achievement adds momentum to its self-reliance push in defence manufacturing and next-generation military technology.
Multi-Layer Missile Defence System Tested
DRDO successfully demonstrated the multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence capability during the trials. The interceptor missiles accurately engaged their designated targets, proving the system’s ability to detect, track and neutralise incoming missile threats.
The Ministry of Defence said the systems were designed and developed using the latest technologies to address modern missile challenges. The successful demonstration is expected to improve India’s strategic deterrence and strengthen protection against long-range missile threats.
The ministry also said the tests have placed India among a select group of nations with advanced Ballistic Missile Defence capability. This is important because only a few countries have developed missile defence systems capable of responding to high-end strategic threats, including long-range ballistic missiles.
NASM-MR Naval Missile Clears First Test
In another key development, DRDO carried out the first flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range. The NASM-MR missile is expected to enhance the operational capability of the Indian armed forces, especially in maritime security and naval strike missions.
The missile can support India’s ability to respond to threats at sea and strengthen the Indian Navy’s future combat readiness. Its successful maiden flight test marks another step in developing homegrown weapon systems for modern naval operations.
Senior officials from DRDO and the armed forces witnessed the tests, showing close coordination between defence scientists, engineers and military teams. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and associated teams for the successful demonstrations.
DRDO Chairman and Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development, Rajesh Kumar Singh, closely monitored the trials and appreciated the work of scientists, engineers and industry partners.
The latest tests underline India’s growing focus on indigenous defence systems, missile shield technology and maritime strike capability. With both the Ballistic Missile Defence system and NASM-MR missile showing successful results, DRDO has strengthened India’s position in advanced defence technology and future battlefield readiness.
