The 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon returns Sunday, October 11, bringing tens of thousands of runners and spectators to the streets of Chicago.

The 48th running starts and finishes in Grant Park and takes participants through 29 neighborhoods. Organizers expect about 55,000 runners, while an estimated 1.7 million spectators traditionally line the course.

For spectators and visitors, the route also provides a mile-by-mile tour of Chicago’s restaurant, cafe and bar scene.

Restaurants near the early Chicago Marathon course

Near the opening miles, downtown offers several options for grabbing food before or during the race. Chiya Chai Loop serves chai alongside South Asian dishes including curry bowls and samosas.

Other early-course choices include Seedo’s Levantine Bakery near Mile 3 and PLANTA Chicago near Mile 4. Farther north, Firecakes Donuts, The Wiener’s Circle and Ann Sather provide options ranging from doughnuts and Chicago-style hot dogs to breakfast favorites.

Lincoln Park and West Loop dining options

As the course continues through the North Side and toward downtown, spectators have several well-known Chicago restaurants nearby.

Esmé appears near Mile 10, followed by Utopian Tailgate and Small Cheval around Miles 11 and 12. Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf and avec are listed around Miles 13 and 14.

Near Miles 15 through 18, options include VietFive Coffee, Ranalli’s West Loop, Beatrix and Gathers Tea Bar.

Pilsen, South Loop and the final miles

Around Miles 19 and 20, Pilsen Yards and Penelope’s Vegan Taqueria offer two options in Pilsen. The course later passes dining destinations including Batter & Berries, Lawrence Fish Market and Pearl’s Place Restaurant.

As runners approach Grant Park, Brûlée Chicago and Overflow Coffee appear near Miles 24 and 25, while Printers Row Wine Bar and Shop is listed near Mile 26.

Race-day access will require planning. Official marathon information says streets along the course are scheduled to close to traffic beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday, October 11, with closures continuing as late as 4 p.m. in some areas and streets reopening as the final runners pass. Spectators should check the official course and street-closure information before choosing where to watch or dine.
