APSDMA Warns Severe Heatwave Across Andhra, Temperatures Hit 47.6°C

Record-Breaking Heat Across Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has issued a severe heatwave warning across multiple districts of the state, forecasting extremely high temperatures for the next four days. The highest temperature recorded this season so far was 47.6°C in Piduguralla, Palnadu district, with eleven districts experiencing temperatures above 45°C. Areas affected include Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Polavaram, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, and Prakasam districts.

APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain advised the public to avoid travel during peak daytime hours between 11 AM and 4 PM, as heat intensity has reached severe levels. The agency also warned of severe heatwave conditions in 74 mandals, while 232 mandals are under heatwave alert today. Tomorrow, 24 mandals may face extreme conditions, and 270 mandals will continue to experience heatwave temperatures.

Mandal-Wise Temperature Highlights

On Wednesday, 204 mandals across 18 districts recorded temperatures above 43°C, with the highest intensity reported in 23 mandals of Palnadu, 21 in Krishna, 20 each in Prakasam and Eluru, 17 in Bapatla, 16 in Nellore, 15 each in NTR and Guntur, and 12 in Markapuram. Specific readings included:

  • Piduguralla, Palnadu: 47.6°C
  • Kankipadu, Krishna: 46.1°C
  • Nandanamarella, Markapuram: 46.1°C
  • Tanuku, West Godavari: 46°C
  • Kolluru, Bapatla and Torragudipadu, NTR: 45.9°C
  • Allipalli, Eluru: 45.7°C
  • Kondapi, Prakasam: 45.6°C
  • Chityala, East Godavari: 45.5°C
  • Gudur, Nellore: 45.4°C
  • Kunavaram, Polavaram: 45°C
  • Pandrapadu, Guntur: 44.8°C
  • Ramachandrapuram, Konaseema: 44.5°C
  • Makavarapalem, Anakapalli and Poolathota, Tirupati: 44.4°C

Other districts, including Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kadapa, Annamayya, Chittoor, and Tirupati, experienced temperatures ranging between 40°C and 43°C.

Public Safety Measures

APSDMA urged the public to remain vigilant and take precautions during the heatwave. Key recommendations include:

  • Avoid heat exposure between 11 AM and 4 PM.
  • Stay hydrated with water, lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water.
  • Vulnerable groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and individuals with heart, diabetes, or blood pressure conditions should take extra precautions.

The agency emphasized that residents should postpone unnecessary travel and limit outdoor activity to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Health Advisory and Recommendations

With temperatures soaring, APSDMA stressed the importance of monitoring symptoms of heat exhaustion and dehydration, particularly in children and senior citizens. Precautions include wearing loose, light-colored clothing, avoiding direct sunlight, and seeking medical help if symptoms like dizziness, nausea, or rapid heartbeat occur.
