Dr Kanike Priyanka, a 28-year-old postgraduate medical student who was critically injured in a hit-and-run incident in Rajamahendravaram, died at KIMS Hospital in Secunderabad on Sunday, August 9.

Priyanka, a postgraduate student at GSL Medical College, sustained severe injuries in the incident near Prasad Aditya Mall on August 3. She was travelling as a pillion rider on a two-wheeler with a friend when a car allegedly rammed into their vehicle.

Police Detail Alleged Incident

According to police, two youths had reportedly been involved in an altercation with security personnel at the mall before leaving the premises in a car.

Police alleged that the vehicle was driven recklessly and struck the two-wheeler carrying Priyanka. East Godavari SP D Narasimha Kishore said the accused allegedly hit Priyanka multiple times with the car.

Priyanka suffered serious head injuries and was initially taken to a hospital in Rajahmundry. She was later shifted to KIMS Hospital in Secunderabad for advanced treatment as her condition remained critical.

Priyanka Dies During Treatment

Despite continued medical treatment, Priyanka's condition did not improve. She was later declared brain-dead and her death was confirmed on Sunday.

Her family reportedly agreed to donate her organs, helping provide a new chance of life to other patients.

Police Register Case

Police have registered an attempt-to-murder case against the accused and further investigation is underway.

Priyanka's death has once again raised concerns over reckless and suspected drunk driving and its potentially fatal consequences.

The young doctor was pursuing postgraduate medical education at the time of the incident.
