Northeast Dallas Fire Forces Defensive Operation

Firefighters arriving at the three-story residential building found flames coming through the roof. Crews initially entered the structure but withdrew as conditions deteriorated and the fire spread.

The incident was upgraded to three alarms, bringing as many as 70 firefighters and additional ladder trucks to the scene. The building sustained extensive damage, including partial roof collapses.

The main fire was brought under control at about 7 a.m., although crews continued addressing hot spots later in the morning.

Cambridge Park Condominiums Sustains Major Damage

Dallas Fire-Rescue reported that at least 24 individually owned condominium units were affected by the blaze.

Residents described escaping through smoke-filled hallways and stairwells. Neighbors also helped children, older adults and other residents leave the building safely.

Many of those displaced were unable to collect clothing, identification, medication or other belongings before evacuating.

Red Cross Assists About 80 People

Fire officials estimated that 45 residents were directly displaced. The American Red Cross assisted about 80 people, including residents from a nearby building affected by evacuation orders, power disruptions or water damage.

The Lake Highlands YMCA was used as a temporary assistance center. The Red Cross provided food, water, toiletries and other essential supplies while coordinating temporary accommodations with Dallas Emergency Management.

DART also helped residents who could not access their vehicles because emergency equipment, hoses and debris blocked parts of the property.

Cause of Dallas Condo Fire Under Investigation

Fire investigators had not determined the cause of the blaze as of Friday. Officials had also not announced when residents of nearby units would be allowed to return.

Emergency agencies continued working to arrange housing and other assistance for affected families as investigators examined the heavily damaged building.
