Tamil Nadu Political Twist: Court Plea Filed Over TVK MLA’s One-Vote Margin

One-Vote Tamil Nadu Election Result Reaches Madras High Court

KR Periyakaruppan, former minister from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, has moved the Madras High Court after losing the Tiruppattur Assembly constituency by just one vote in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Seenivasa Sethupathy of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam defeated Periyakaruppan in one of the closest contests of the 2026 elections. Following the narrow defeat, the senior DMK leader filed a petition seeking to restrain the newly elected MLA from taking oath or participating in Assembly proceedings until the matter is reviewed by the court.

The Madras High Court is expected to conduct a special sitting to hear the plea, highlighting the significance of the case. The legal challenge has added fresh political drama to the post-election developments in Tamil Nadu as discussions continue around the razor-thin victory margin.
