Indian cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav has been fined 30 percent of his match fee by the ICC after dedicating India’s Asia Cup 2025 group stage victory over Pakistan to the Indian Armed Forces and the families of the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The incident took place after India’s seven-wicket win on September 14, when Yadav’s post-match comments were deemed political in nature following an official complaint from Pakistan. The case was heard by ICC match referee Richie Richardson, who announced the penalty after a detailed hearing. According to reports, Suryakumar pleaded not guilty and India has officially appealed the decision.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have been running high throughout the tournament, with India refusing the customary handshakes before and after matches as a mark of solidarity with the Pahalgam victims. Meanwhile, Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf was also fined 30 percent of his match fee for aggressive on-field behavior during the Super 4s clash, while teammate Sahibzada Farhan escaped with only a warning despite his controversial gunshot celebration after scoring a half-century.
The ICC is expected to release an official statement confirming the exact punishment only after the Asia Cup 2025 final. Both teams are now gearing up for a highly charged summit clash, with emotions already spilling over and off-field controversies intensifying the rivalry.
