JioHotstar created a landmark moment in the South Indian entertainment industry by announcing a massive investment of ₹4,000 crore to strengthen regional content, talent development and digital storytelling over the next five years. The announcement was made on December 9, 2025 at the JioHotstar South Unbound grand event held in Chennai. Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Nagarjuna, Vijay Sethupathi and several South film industry giants attended the ceremony. Representatives including JioStar SVOD Chief Marketing Officer Sushanth Sreeram and Entertainment (South) Head Krishnan Kutty explained how this mission aims to take South stories to global levels. The partnership also includes a Letter of Intent signed with the Tamil Nadu government, focusing on encouraging new creators, writers, editors and digital teams through writing labs, mentorship camps and skill-building workshops.

The event unveiled a grand lineup of 25 new South titles that reflect culture, creativity and modern storytelling. Popular franchises returning include Kerala Crime Files Season 3, Save The Tigers Season 3, Heartbeat Season 3 and Good Wife Season 2. New originals like Cousins And Kalyanams, Moodu Lanternlu, LBW Love Beyond Wicket, Resort, Roslin, Lingam and Vikram On Duty also featured in the launch slate. JioHotstar is introducing Aarya (Hindi) to regional audiences as Vishakha, while bold new productions include Vijay Sethupathi’s Kaattaan, Nivin Pauly’s Pharma, Lucky The Superstar and Kenatha Kanom. Reality content also expands with Comedy Cooks, Mad For Each Other, Second Love and Roadies Telugu being introduced as landmark additions. JioHotstar aims to elevate South cinema beyond linguistic boundaries, transforming Chennai into a global film city hub. The platform forecasts direct employment to over 1,000 people and indirect opportunities for 15,000 through large-scale content creation. Leaders said regional stories are no longer limited but are evolving as national and global cultural events.

Udhayanidhi Stalin noted that Tamil Nadu has been a cultural backbone to South cinema, supporting Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada film journeys from the beginning. Kamal Haasan highlighted that content rooted in native soil, like Kantara, Drishyam, Baahubali and Pushpa, proved that powerful stories resonate across the world. JioHotstar confirmed that it aims to expand accessibility, promote Indian storytelling and shape the future of entertainment with high-quality streaming experiences. With major stars, creators and production houses present, the South Unbound event marked a new chapter for the South Indian entertainment ecosystem. JioHotstar’s vision aims to uplift regional cinema as global creative power, offering audiences wide-ranging originals, reality shows, blockbuster films and powerful narratives. Regional is becoming national, and ethnic is now reaching international platforms.
