Ohio Revolutionary War Graves Deadline: Submit Data by May 25

Ohio residents have until Monday, May 25, 2026, to submit Ohio Revolutionary War graves data before the state closes its public collection portal.

The Grave Marker and Cemetery Collection Portal will close to public submissions at the end of that day, allowing officials to review, verify and finalize records before the project’s public release on Saturday, July 4, 2026, according to America 250-Ohio reporting and project details.

Ohio Revolutionary War Graves Project Enters Final Review

The Revolutionary War Veterans Graves Project is part of America 250-Ohio’s effort to create a public database and digital map of American Revolution veterans buried across the state.

The project is led by the Ohio History Connection and the State Historic Preservation Office, with Terracon Consultants, Inc. involved in building the Survey123 collection portal. The goal is to document grave markers, cemetery locations, inscriptions and GPS coordinates for researchers, families, veterans groups and local history organizations.

Why Ohio’s Grave Marker Portal Matters

Officials have estimated that about 7,000 Revolutionary War veterans were buried in Ohio. The project has already documented more than 4,100 graves across roughly 1,400 cemeteries, according to recent reporting and live dashboard details.

Volunteers have used smartphones to photograph grave markers, record inscriptions and submit cemetery location data. The information will help create a broader public record of Revolutionary War veterans whose graves may be damaged, hard to find or at risk of being forgotten.

How Ohioans Can Still Submit Grave Data

Before the deadline, residents can review project instructions, download the free Survey123 app, visit an identified cemetery, photograph a marker, record inscription details and submit the location.

No historical expertise is required. Volunteers who do not remain anonymous may also be acknowledged by name. With the portal closing just after Memorial Day weekend, the final submissions could strengthen Ohio’s July 4 public release and preserve a lasting record tied to America’s earliest veterans.
