Texas voter registration deadline is Oct. 5 for Nov. 3 election

The Texas voter registration deadline for the November 3, 2026 election is Monday, October 5. Texans can verify their registration through VoteTexas, while early voting begins October 19 and mail-ballot applications must be received by October 23.

Texans who want to vote in the November 3, 2026 general election face a key deadline Monday, October 5, the final day to register to vote.

The Texas Secretary of State has urged eligible residents to register or verify their existing registration before the deadline. Early voting will begin October 19.

Texas voter registration deadline

Texas requires eligible voters to register before the state's deadline to participate in the November election. Applications mailed on October 5 must be postmarked by that date.

First-time voters can complete an application through the Texas Secretary of State's online application system, but in most cases the completed form must then be printed, signed and returned to the appropriate county election office. Texans with qualifying Texas driver's license or state ID transactions can also register through the Department of Public Safety process.

Check your VoteTexas registration status

Voters can check their registration through VoteTexas using their Voter Unique Identifier (VUID), Texas driver's license number, or name and other identifying information.

Residents who have moved or changed their names should also confirm that their voter registration information is current. Texas voter registration is administered at the county level.

What a 'suspense' voter status means

A registration marked “suspense” does not automatically mean the voter has been removed from the rolls. It generally indicates that election officials are uncertain about the voter's current residential address.

A voter on suspense status can still be eligible to vote but may need to complete a Statement of Residence. Different procedures can apply when a voter has moved to another county.

Texas early voting and mail ballot dates

Early voting in person for the November 3 election runs from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 30, 2026.

The deadline for an early voting clerk to receive, not merely have postmarked, an application for a ballot by mail is Friday, October 23. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with regular polling hours from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

With registration closing October 5, voters who are unsure of their status have limited time to resolve registration issues. Once the deadline passes, attention shifts to confirming polling information, preparing for early voting and meeting applicable mail-ballot requirements.
