Donald Trump’s ‘Strait of Trump’ Comment Goes Viral Amid Hormuz Crisis

US President Donald Trump made a light-hearted remark about the Strait of Hormuz during a recent investment forum in Miami, drawing laughter from the audience. While speaking about the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Trump jokingly referred to the critical waterway as the “Strait of Trump” before correcting himself and saying “Hormuz.”

He followed the comment with a sarcastic apology, taking a swipe at mainstream media. Trump said that any slip of words would likely be exaggerated, adding humor to his statement and keeping the tone casual despite the serious geopolitical backdrop.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a key global chokepoint, carrying nearly 20% of the world’s oil and gas supplies. The situation has remained tense since Iran restricted movement through the strait, raising concerns about global energy supply and escalating tensions between Iran, the United States, and its allies.

This isn’t the first time Trump has made headlines with comments about geographical names. Earlier in 2025, he announced the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” a move he described as reflecting US dominance in the region.
