Movie Review: Panchathantram

Panchathantram is a Telugu anthology with Bramhanandam, Colors Swati, Adarsh Balakrishna, Sivathmika Rajasekhar, and others in the lead roles. The film released in theaters today and here's what we make of it.

Story: Bramhanandam is a stand-up comic who uses the stories of five different bunches of people for his comic act. What are the five stories? How are they related to his life?

How did the actors perform?

The film has a big cast. The likes of Bramhanandam, Samuthirakani, Colors Swati, Adarsh Balakrishna, Rahul Vijay, Sivathmika Rajasekhar, and others play the lead roles. Bramhanandam and Samuthirakani are standout performers. They shoulder the film with their class act.

What about the technical finesse?

The director Harsha Pulipaka picks a novel subject and he narrates in what appears to be a poetic style. But the issue with such narratives is that they don't cater to all sections of the audience. As a result, this film entirely caters to the A center and plexes audiences.

The amalgamation of five stories looks good on paper and for most parts, the narrative is in tune with the theme. Barring the opening story of the five, the rest all look good and carry the right feel. In particular, the tract involving Samuthirakani is of very good quality in terms of writing and emotional connect.

For starters, having to watch an anthology on the big screens in itself, is something new for the Telugu audience as Tollywood hadn't produced too many anthologies lately. So, this acts as the USP of Panchathantram. The film scores well on the sensibility and soulful waiting part.

The background score and the visuals are the backbone and they complement the narrative. The film scores well on the technical front as well.

Verdict: Panchathantram is a decent anthology feature film that has enough things going its way. But of course, only if you don't mind the narrative that unfolds at its own pace.

Rating:2.75/5
