Anthropic Valuation Climbs
Anthropic announced on Thursday, May 28, that it raised $65 billion in a new funding round, lifting its valuation to $965 billion and placing the company ahead of OpenAI in the fast-moving artificial intelligence market. The company, led by former OpenAI executive Dario Amodei, has gained attention for Claude, its advanced AI assistant, and for its growing strength in coding, enterprise AI and safety-focused model development.
Enterprise AI Drives Growth
Anthropic’s rise has been shaped by a strategy focused heavily on business customers rather than only consumer-facing tools. The company said the new funding will help it meet rising demand, continue frontier AI research and bring Claude into more workplace settings. The funding round was led by major Silicon Valley investors including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. Anthropic also secured previously committed investments from large cloud computing companies, including Amazon, while chipmakers Micron Technology, Samsung and SK hynix joined as strategic infrastructure partners.
Cloud And AI Race Expands
The company said Claude is now available across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, making it one of the most widely distributed frontier AI models for enterprise users. That cloud reach is important as businesses increasingly adopt AI systems for coding, productivity, customer support, research and internal operations. Anthropic’s latest valuation also reflects the broader investor rush toward companies building advanced models, cloud infrastructure and semiconductor partnerships that can support large-scale AI deployment.
The fundraising comes as Anthropic faces a legal dispute with the US Defense Department after being labelled a supply chain risk. The company has challenged that designation, arguing it was unfairly targeted after refusing to provide unrestricted military access to its AI systems. Anthropic has also reportedly limited access to its next-generation model, Mythos, because of cybersecurity concerns, making it available only to selected security partners. The company’s latest funding signals strong investor confidence, but it also raises pressure to prove that its safety-first approach, enterprise strategy and infrastructure partnerships can support long-term growth in the global AI race.
