Target Up & Up Baby Wipes Recall in U.S.: Stop Using These

Target has recalled select Up & Up baby wipes sold nationwide and online after FDA testing found bacterial contamination that could pose infection risks, especially for newborns, infants, young children and people with weakened immune systems.

The voluntary recall was announced by Target on Thursday, June 4, 2026, and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday, June 5, 2026. The recalled products include Up & Up Fragrance Free Baby Wipes and Up & Up Fresh Cucumber Scented Baby Wipes.

Up & Up Baby Wipes Recall Affects Fragrance-Free and Cucumber Wipes

According to the FDA-posted recall notice, the affected fragrance-free wipes were sold in 20-count, 72-count, 216-count, 800-count and 1,200-count packages. The fresh cucumber-scented wipes were sold in 72-count, 216-count and 800-count packages.

The fragrance-free wipes carry manufacturing date codes from November 7, 2025, to May 5, 2026, with expiration dates from May 10, 2028, through November 5, 2028. The cucumber-scented wipes carry manufacturing codes from December 29, 2025, to December 30, 2025, with expiration dates from June 29, 2028, through June 30, 2028.

Why the Recalled Wipes May Be Risky

Target said the recall followed customer complaints about product discoloration and FDA testing that identified Burkholderia cepacia complex and Burkholderia gladioli in product samples. The bacteria can cause local infections in healthy users, especially if the wipes touch skin with minor cuts or abrasions.

For newborns, infants, young children and immunocompromised individuals, the infection could spread into the bloodstream and may lead to serious complications such as sepsis or pneumonia, according to the recall notice.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers should stop using the recalled wipes immediately and return them to any Target store for a full refund. Target said customers may contact Target Guest Relations at 1-800-440-0680 for more information.

The recall matters because baby wipes are used directly on sensitive skin, often several times a day. Parents and caregivers should check product packaging, manufacturing codes and expiration dates before using any Up & Up wipes purchased from Target stores or Target.com.
