YouTube TV and DirecTV Stream subscribers who paid for eligible live-TV streaming services between April 1, 2019, and March 31, 2026, may qualify to file a claim in a $50 million antitrust class-action settlement involving The Walt Disney Company.
The deadline to submit a claim is Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The settlement stems from a lawsuit alleging that certain television carriage agreements reduced price competition and contributed to higher subscription costs for live-streaming services.
Disney denied the allegations and did not admit wrongdoing but agreed to pay $50 million to resolve the claims.
Who May Qualify for the Settlement?
Consumers may be eligible if they paid for YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream during any part of the settlement period from April 1, 2019, through March 31, 2026.
Previous versions of DirecTV Stream, including DirecTV Now and AT&T TV Now, are also included in the settlement.
Subscribers do not necessarily need to have maintained their service throughout the entire period. Customers who subscribed for only a few months, as well as those who canceled years ago, may still be eligible based on the months for which they paid.
Eligible consumers should review the official settlement notice carefully to confirm that their subscription falls within the approved class definition.
What Was the Lawsuit About?
Live-TV streaming services originally attracted consumers by offering alternatives to traditional cable packages, often with lower prices and more flexible channel selections.
The lawsuit alleged that television carriage agreements involving popular networks limited the ability of streaming providers to offer cheaper packages.
One allegation centered on ESPN and other Disney-owned channels. Plaintiffs claimed distributors seeking access to important sports programming were required to carry a broader group of networks, increasing the cost of standard subscription packages.
The lawsuit also alleged that these arrangements made it difficult for services to offer lower-priced packages without sports channels.
Another part of the case involved Hulu + Live TV. Plaintiffs alleged that contractual arrangements restricted competing streaming providers from pricing their services significantly below Hulu’s offering, potentially reducing price competition.
These claims were allegations made in the lawsuit. Disney denied wrongdoing, and the settlement does not represent a legal finding that the company violated antitrust law.
How Much Could Subscribers Receive?
Individual payments have not been fixed.
The settlement fund will be distributed on a pro-rata basis, meaning payments will depend partly on how long each claimant maintained an eligible subscription and how many valid claims are ultimately submitted.
Someone who subscribed for several years may therefore receive a larger share than a customer who used the service for only a short period.
The settlement also uses different allocations depending on where claimants live. Under the proposed distribution structure, a larger portion of the settlement fund is allocated to claimants in certain states described as repealer jurisdictions, including California, Colorado, Florida and New York, while a smaller portion is reserved for claimants in other jurisdictions.
Final payments will depend on valid claims, administrative costs and the court-approved settlement distribution.
How to Submit a Claim Before the Deadline
Potential class members may have received an email or postcard containing a Unique ID and PIN that can be used to submit a claim through the official settlement portal.
Consumers who did not receive those credentials but believe they qualify may still be able to complete a claim using the email address and billing information associated with their former YouTube TV or DirecTV Stream account.
Online claims must be submitted by September 8, 2026. Paper claim forms must also meet the settlement’s stated mailing and postmark requirements.
