Trump Iran Warning Puts Kharg Island Oil Hub in Focus

U.S. President Donald Trump’s latest warning over the Kharg Island oil hub has added a new layer of risk to the U.S.-Iran conflict and raised fresh concerns about Gulf security and oil markets.

Trump said on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that the United States would strike Iran “very hard” later Thursday night. In a Truth Social post, he claimed Iran’s navy, air force, radar, anti-aircraft systems and other defense capabilities had been severely weakened.

Kharg Island Oil Hub Becomes Central to Trump’s Iran Warning

Trump also said the United States could move against Kharg Island and other Iranian oil infrastructure “at some point in the not too distant future.” Kharg Island is widely viewed as one of Iran’s most important oil export points, making any threat involving the island highly sensitive for energy markets and regional security.

The warning came during a renewed phase of U.S.-Iran hostilities, with both sides exchanging attacks and tensions rising across the Middle East. Trump compared his approach toward Iran’s oil and gas markets to his administration’s actions involving Venezuela, saying Washington could seek “total control” of Iran’s oil and gas markets.

Why the Threat Matters for Oil Markets

Any escalation involving Iranian oil infrastructure could affect Gulf stability and investor expectations around crude supply. Even without a confirmed attack on oil facilities, threats against key export infrastructure can increase pressure on oil prices and deepen uncertainty for shipping and energy markets.

Trump also said in a television interview on Thursday, June 11, 2026, that he preferred not to target bridges or power plants because of the possible impact on civilians, including access to water. However, he added that more bombing would take place and described the planned strikes as larger and more powerful.

The remarks leave the conflict at a dangerous point: Washington is signaling more military pressure, while the mention of Kharg Island has shifted attention from battlefield strikes to the wider economic stakes of the U.S.-Iran confrontation.
