US–Israel–Iran War | Missile strike damages civilian satellite site near Beit Shemesh, two hurt
A missile fired by Hezbollah struck a satellite communications facility near the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh on Tuesday, damaging infrastructure at the site and injuring two people, according to emergency and military officials. The impact was captured in a dashcam video circulating online, showing the moment the missile hit the satellite station and caused visible damage to parts of the facility.

Rescue services reported that two individuals sustained injuries in the blast. Both were treated by medical teams at the scene before being transported for further care. Officials said the injuries were not considered life-threatening, though the strike caused structural damage to equipment and surrounding infrastructure at the location.

The Israel Defense Forces said the incident occurred due to what it described as an isolated failure in the country’s air defense system. According to the military, the incoming missile was not intercepted and warning sirens did not sound prior to the impact, raising questions about the circumstances that allowed the projectile to reach the site without triggering the standard alert mechanisms.

Hezbollah later claimed responsibility for the strike, asserting that the targeted facility belonged to what it described as the communications and cyber defense division of the Israeli military. However, Israeli officials clarified that the satellite station is not a military installation. The facility is operated as a civilian commercial communications site by SES, a European satellite communications company.

Authorities said assessments were underway to evaluate the extent of the damage to the satellite station and to determine how the missile bypassed Israel’s layered missile interception system. Security officials are also reviewing the technical factors behind the failure to activate warning sirens in the area.

The incident highlights the ongoing volatility along Israel’s northern front and the potential risks to civilian infrastructure amid the broader regional tensions. Investigations into the defense system failure and the circumstances surrounding the strike are expected to continue as officials seek to prevent similar incidents in the future.
