The embassy said it was coordinating with the relevant authorities and continuing to monitor the situation.

Union reports missile strike near Hormuz

The Forward Seamen’s Union of India said the Disha was struck by an unidentified missile near the Strait of Hormuz while sailing toward the Persian Gulf.

The embassy confirmed that the vessel had been attacked but did not publicly identify the weapon, the attacker or the extent of any damage. No official information was immediately available on whether the tanker required assistance or changed course.

Strait remains a critical energy route

About 20 million barrels of oil per day passed through the strait in 2024, equivalent to roughly 20% of global petroleum liquids consumption, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Oil flows remained broadly unchanged during the first quarter of 2025.
