Bengaluru Travel Operators Fear Livelihood Loss As Work-From-Home Demand Rises

Bengaluru Travel Operators Raise Alarm

Travel operators in Bengaluru have raised serious concern over the possible impact of increasing work-from-home practices on their livelihood. The Karnataka State Travel Operators’ Association has urged the Centre to protect the employee transport sector, saying the industry supports lakhs of jobs across India. The association said corporate cab and bus services continue to play an important role in helping IT, corporate and industrial employees travel safely between their homes and workplaces.

According to KSTOA, any sharp rise in work-from-home could directly affect drivers, vehicle owners, fleet operators, maintenance staff, coordinators and many families depending on the employee transport network. Bengaluru, being one of India’s biggest IT hubs, has a large number of companies that depend on organised transport services for daily staff movement.

KSTOA Seeks Protection From Centre

The association said flexible work policies should not ignore the people whose income depends on office travel. Travel operators fear that if more companies reduce office attendance, demand for employee transport services may fall, creating financial pressure on thousands of workers in the sector.

KSTOA has requested the Centre to consider protective steps for the employee transport industry while framing or supporting workplace policies. Operators said the sector is not only a business service but also a major employment chain connected to India’s IT and corporate growth. They want the government to balance work-from-home decisions with livelihood security for corporate cab operators and other transport workers.
