India Opens Attari and 10 More Entry Points to E-Visa Holders
New Delhi, August 11, 2026: India has expanded its electronic visa network by notifying 11 additional international entry points during 2026. The additions include nine land ports and two airports, increasing the total number of authorised India e-visa entry points to 88.
The expanded network now comprises 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the move is intended to simplify entry for legitimate international travellers while strengthening the technology used for immigration and internal security.
The electronic visa facility has become an important part of India’s immigration system. The government says e-visas account for about 78 per cent of all visas issued by the country, while approximately 95 per cent of applications are processed within 72 hours.
Attari e-visa entry joins eight other land ports
Attari Road in Punjab, located on the India-Pakistan border, is one of the nine land entry points notified for eligible e-visa holders during 2026. The complete list also includes Agartala, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki and Moreh.
These crossings provide additional arrival routes for travellers entering India from neighbouring countries. Moreh connects India with Myanmar, while Dawki serves the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya. Jaigaon is an important crossing on the border with Bhutan.
The expansion may support tourism and business activity beyond India’s largest cities by allowing eligible travellers to enter through regional border points. However, visitors should confirm that their approved visa category permits entry through their chosen crossing before finalising a journey.
The new facility does not apply to people holding Pakistani passports. Certain foreign nationals of Pakistani origin are also ineligible for an Indian e-visa. They must apply for a regular visa through an Indian embassy, high commission or consulate.
Bhopal and Tirupati become new e-visa airports
Bhopal Airport in Madhya Pradesh and Tirupati Airport in Andhra Pradesh are the two air entry points added to the network. Their inclusion increases the number of Indian airports accepting e-visa arrivals to 37.
Adding Bhopal and Tirupati could make travel more convenient for visitors heading directly to central India or the Tirupati pilgrimage region. Travellers may no longer need to complete immigration at a distant metropolitan airport before continuing their domestic journey, subject to airline routes and immigration arrangements.
India introduced the electronic visa system in 2014 for citizens of 43 countries. It has since expanded to eligible nationals of 172 countries and covers 17 travel subcategories, including tourism, business, medical treatment, study, transit, conferences, mountaineering and cruise travel.
Travellers must receive an approved Electronic Travel Authorization before departure and carry a copy when entering India. They should also ensure that their passport meets the required validity conditions and that their intended arrival point is authorised for e-visa entry.
Applicants should submit requests only through the official Indian e-Visa portal and check the latest authorised entry points on the Ministry of Home Affairs website. Unofficial websites may charge unnecessary fees or collect sensitive personal information.
