Hyderabad Rains: Two Die Of Electrocution As IT Corridor Faces Severe Waterlogging

Heavy rain brought parts of Hyderabad to a standstill on Tuesday evening, June 9, 2026, as two people died due to electrocution and several key roads witnessed severe waterlogging and traffic congestion.

According to police, the two victims were electrocuted in the Bandlaguda area after coming in contact with a live electric wire that had fallen on a waterlogged road during the heavy downpour. Reports identified the deceased as an auto-rickshaw driver and a 15-year-old student.

Two Die After Live Wire Falls On Road

The tragic incident took place when an overhead electric wire reportedly snapped during the rain and fell into stagnant water. The victims came in contact with the live wire and died on the spot, prompting police to register a case and begin an investigation.

The incident has once again raised concerns over electrical safety, waterlogging and civic preparedness during intense monsoon spells in Hyderabad.

IT Corridor Hit By Knee-Deep Water

Heavy rain also caused major disruption in Hyderabad’s IT corridor, including areas around Madhapur, Gachibowli and Hitec City. Several stretches were reportedly submerged in knee-deep water, slowing traffic and leaving commuters stuck for long hours.

Videos and posts shared on social media showed waterlogged roads, slow-moving traffic and vehicles struggling through flooded stretches. The heavy downpour affected office-goers and evening commuters across major routes.

Traffic Jams Across The City

Apart from the IT corridor, several other parts of Hyderabad also faced traffic congestion due to flooding and water accumulation. Roads in low-lying areas became difficult to cross, while emergency and civic teams were expected to clear waterlogged stretches and restore movement.

The rain-related disruption has brought focus back on drainage systems, road safety and power-line maintenance during the monsoon season.

Safety Advisory For Residents

Residents should avoid walking or driving through waterlogged roads, especially near electric poles, transformers or snapped wires. People are also advised not to touch metal objects, barricades or parked vehicles in flooded areas if there is any suspicion of electric leakage.

With more rain likely during the monsoon period, authorities are expected to monitor vulnerable areas and take steps to prevent similar incidents.
