Rolls-Royce Eyes India Manufacturing Investment Under UK Pact

Rolls-Royce and India discussed deeper manufacturing investment, technology partnerships and an engine proposal tied to the country’s next-generation AMCA fighter program on Friday, June 26, 2026.

The talks focused on how the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement, or CETA, could support advanced manufacturing, engineering cooperation and more resilient supply chains.

Rolls-Royce India Manufacturing Investment Gains Focus

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met a Rolls-Royce delegation led by Chief Transformation Officer Nicola Grady-Smith. The discussions examined India’s growing role in advanced manufacturing and engineering, along with opportunities for additional investment and faster technology collaboration under the trade pact.

The British government’s official account in India said Rolls-Royce plans to invest billions of pounds in the Indian economy over the next decade and significantly expand its operations. However, no specific investment amount, project list or implementation timeline was included in the information released.

AMCA Engine Proposal Adds Defense Dimension

The meeting also covered India’s aerospace and defense ambitions. British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron and Rolls-Royce executive Alex Zino discussed the company’s Engine Development Programme proposal connected to the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft, or AMCA.

The proposal brings aircraft-engine technology, engineering capability and domestic manufacturing into the broader India-UK economic relationship. It also highlights the potential for cooperation beyond trade in goods, including long-term industrial and technology partnerships.

Why the Rolls-Royce Talks Matter

For Rolls-Royce, a larger India presence could create opportunities across engineering, sourcing, manufacturing and defense-related technology. For India, deeper cooperation could support efforts to expand advanced industrial capacity and strengthen international supply chains.

The significance of the discussions will depend on whether the broad investment plans lead to specific projects, funding commitments and technology agreements as CETA moves toward implementation.
