A Thai-flagged cargo ship, Mayuree Naree, sailing toward Gujarat, was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on March 11, 2026. The vessel was struck by an unidentified projectile approximately 11 nautical miles off the northern coast of Oman, sparking a fire on board. The incident prompted a swift rescue operation by the Omani navy, which successfully evacuated 20 of the 23 crew members, while three remained aboard.
According to maritime security sources, the attack occurred in one of the world’s most crucial shipping corridors, the Strait of Hormuz. The Mayuree Naree was owned by Precious Shipping, and authorities confirmed its identity through maritime tracking systems and vessel records. The cause of the attack, including the weapon used, remains under investigation, with no group or nation claiming responsibility so far.
The fire on the ship was eventually brought under control, but the extent of the damage and the condition of the remaining crew members have not been fully disclosed. Maritime authorities, including the Royal Thai Navy and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
This incident highlights the ongoing risks in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. Tensions in the region, often tied to geopolitical issues involving Iran, continue to pose threats to international shipping and the safety of personnel working in the area.
