Iran Reviews US Proposal but Insists No Talks with Washington Amid Ongoing War

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Tehran is reviewing a US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, but made it clear that this does not signify formal negotiations with Washington. In an interview with state television, Araghchi emphasized that while messages have been exchanged through intermediaries, they do not equate to talks with the US government. "There are no talks with the US," Araghchi bluntly stated, reiterating Iran's stance of no direct engagement with Washington at this stage.

Araghchi noted that the United States has been using multiple mediators to send messages, but Iran does not view these efforts as formal dialogue. He also accused the US of failing to meet its objectives in the war, which he said included a quick victory and regime change. He highlighted that Iran’s resilience has shown the world that no country can threaten its security.

In addition, Araghchi made it clear that Iran is not looking for a prolonged conflict but seeks a permanent resolution on its own terms. He laid out a set of conditions for ending the war, including a complete halt to attacks, guarantees against future conflicts, compensation for damages, and the recognition of Iran’s authority over the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s refusal to accept the US proposal for a ceasefire further underscores its desire to control the terms of the conflict's end. Tehran dismissed the American proposal, continuing with its military offensives and even launching new attacks on Israel and Gulf Arab countries, including a strike that caused a major fire at Kuwait International Airport.

In a pointed message to regional countries, Araghchi urged them to distance themselves from the US. “My message to neighbouring countries: distance yourself from the U.S.,” he said, signaling Iran’s increasing resolve to manage the situation independently. While diplomatic channels remain uncertain, the military activity in the region is escalating, with reports indicating that the US is preparing to deploy additional troops to the Middle East. Despite these escalating tensions, Iran insists it will only end the war when its own conditions are met, making it clear that Washington’s attempts to dictate the terms are unwelcome.
