Bathukamma 2026 Dates, Significance and Nine-Day Offerings

Bathukamma 2026 Dates, Significance and Nine-Day Offerings

Bathukamma is Telangana’s floral festival, celebrated through colourful flower arrangements, traditional songs and gatherings led predominantly by women. Dedicated to Goddess Gauri, a form of Parvati, it brings together devotion, nature and cultural traditions passed down through generations.

In 2026, Bathukamma runs from Saturday, October 10, to Sunday, October 18. The celebrations begin with Engili Pula Bathukamma and conclude with Saddula Bathukamma. Telangana’s official calendar lists the concluding festival on October 18.

Significance of Bathukamma

The name Bathukamma is commonly understood as “Mother, come alive.” The festival honours Goddess Gauri and celebrates the seasonal flowers that bloom after the monsoon.

Families arrange flowers into layered stacks, placing a small turmeric form called Gauramma at the top. In traditional belief, Gauramma represents the goddess. Women gather around the arrangements, sing folk songs and clap while moving in circles.

The festival’s cultural importance includes:

  • Preserving Telangana’s traditional songs and customs.
  • Bringing families and neighbourhoods together.
  • Celebrating women’s participation in community traditions.
  • Honouring Goddess Gauri through flowers and offerings.
  • Appreciating nature and seasonal blooms.
