Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district have arrested school manager Vijay Nishad in connection with the alleged killing of teacher Rani Vishwakarma. Investigators say a dispute over marriage preceded the crime and are examining forensic evidence and possible involvement by others.
Police Outline Events Leading to the Killing
According to Deoria police, the incident took place on October 31, 2026. Vishwakarma, who taught at V N Central Academy in the neighbouring Gorakhpur district, reportedly raised the subject of marriage with Nishad, the school manager. Police said Nishad was already married and had two children. After an argument, he allegedly drove her to an isolated road outside Meetha Bel village, where he strangled her inside his white Maruti WagonR.
Body Found in Deoria; Evidence Recovered
Investigators allege that Nishad kept the body in the car’s boot for several hours and disposed of it after dark near Shri Net Global School in Rudrapur. Police said he also allegedly broke Vishwakarma’s phone and discarded her ATM card while travelling towards Chauri Chaura. Her body was found in roadside bushes that evening, and police identified her the following day. A case was registered under Sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after a complaint from her family.
Car Examined as Police Probe Continues
Rudrapur police and the Special Operations Group arrested Nishad during the investigation. Police said they recovered the teacher’s ATM card, cardholder and mobile phone cover based on information provided by the accused. Forensic teams examined the WagonR and collected samples from its boot. Nishad was produced before a court for further legal proceedings. His arrest is an investigative step; the allegations have yet to be tested in court.
Family Raises Concern About Possible Accomplices
The victim’s family has raised suspicions that other people may have been involved. Police said Nishad is the only person arrested so far and that they are investigating the family’s claims as part of the ongoing probe. Deoria Superintendent of Police Abhijeet R Shankar said technical and forensic procedures had been carried out. Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence and the circumstances surrounding the teacher’s death.
