Walmart has confirmed that its Neighborhood Market at 3112 Santa Rita Road will close on October 2. The store’s pharmacy will also shut down on the same date.
Walmart spokesperson Anne Hatfield did not give a specific reason for the closure, but noted there are three Walmart locations within eight miles of the Pleasanton market including a full-service Walmart in Livermore and a newly remodeled Neighborhood Market in San Ramon suggesting possible oversaturation.
About 90 employees work at the Pleasanton store; Hatfield said associates are eligible to transfer to other locations. In a statement, Walmart thanked customers for their patronage and encouraged them to shop at nearby stores, on walmart.com, or via home and business delivery. Residents looking for pharmacy services or groceries can use neighboring Walmart stores, as well as other local supermarkets along the I-580/I-680 corridor.
