Vienna GA Mass Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 35 Injured

The Vienna GA mass shooting left two people dead and 35 others injured after gunfire erupted at a crowded neighborhood homecoming gathering in Dooly County. The GBI probe is examining the Pine Street shooting as investigators work to determine who fired the shots and what triggered the violence.

Pine Gunfire

Gunfire broke out at about 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 4, while Dooly County Sheriff's Office deputies were patrolling a neighborhood block party in Vienna, Georgia. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, shots were reported from the 900 block of Pine Street. Deputies immediately moved into the area and found several people suffering from gunshot injuries.

Authorities later found two victims in the 600 block of Pine Street who were pronounced dead at the scene. The gathering had drawn more than 1,000 people during homecoming weekend, creating a difficult emergency response as frightened attendees tried to leave the area.

35 Injured

The GBI confirmed that 35 people were injured in the violence, with victims transported to several regional hospitals for treatment. Officials have not released a complete breakdown of the injuries or the conditions of everyone hospitalized.

Dooly County Sheriff Craig Peavy said more than 50 shots were fired at multiple locations roughly a block apart. Some people suffered gunshot wounds, while others were reportedly injured during the rush to escape the crowded area.

GBI Probe

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation joined the case at the request of the Dooly County Sheriff's Office. Investigators are processing evidence, interviewing witnesses and working to establish the sequence of events surrounding the shooting.

As of the latest official update, the GBI has not publicly announced a suspect, arrest or motive. The agency said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Once investigators complete their work, the case file is expected to be submitted to the Cordele Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for review.

Homecoming Party

The shooting occurred during homecoming weekend, but officials said the block party was not an event sponsored by the Dooly County School System. More than 1,000 people were reportedly gathered in the area when the gunfire began. School officials said the violence could affect students, families and staff and announced additional security measures as classes resumed.

The scale of the incident was particularly significant for Vienna, a small southern Georgia community. Local authorities faced multiple shooting scenes, a large crowd and dozens of injured people requiring treatment across regional hospitals.

Dooly County

The GBI has urged anyone who witnessed the shooting or has relevant information to contact investigators. Anonymous information can also be submitted through the agency's tip channels.

Authorities have stressed that key questions remain unanswered, including how many shooters were involved, what led to the gunfire and whether the shots fired at different locations were connected. Until investigators establish those facts, officials are continuing to treat the Vienna shooting as an active criminal investigation.
