Apple supply chain boost: iPhone parts unit coming to Kuppam with ₹586 crore Hindalco project

Andhra Pradesh is set to witness one of its biggest industrial breakthroughs with Hindalco Industries announcing an Integrated Aluminum Extrusion Facility in Kuppam, the home constituency of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. The ₹586 crore investment will produce aluminum components that will be supplied for manufacturing iPhone chassis and enclosures, making Kuppam a key part of Apple’s global supply chain.

The proposal is awaiting a green signal from the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) and is being hailed as a milestone in the state’s industrial growth. Officials point out that this project will not only put Andhra Pradesh on the global smartphone map but also accelerate India’s ambitions under the “Make in India” initiative.

Kuppam’s geographical advantage is significant it is just 120 km from Bengaluru and 200 km from Chennai, giving it access to two major metro hubs with strong infrastructure. This connectivity makes it an attractive location for investors eyeing the electronics and smartphone ecosystem.

If all goes according to plan, the Hindalco unit will be completed by 2027 and is expected to generate nearly 1,000 direct jobs. The Andhra Pradesh government will extend full support under its Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy 2025–30, offering land, subsidies, and other incentives to boost industrial development in the region.

With Hindalco’s entry, Andhra Pradesh takes a giant step toward becoming a crucial player in the global smartphone supply chain. By manufacturing essential iPhone parts domestically, India is moving closer to reducing import dependency and strengthening its role as a global electronics manufacturing hub. This project not only promises employment opportunities but also positions Kuppam as a strategic industrial hub that blends local growth with global impact.
