Malavika Opens Up About Telugu Debut in O Bhama Ayyayo Rama- An Exclusive Interview
How did you land the role in O Bhama Ayyayo Rama?
Malavika: Director Ram saw my performance in the Tamil film Jo and selected me for this project. I instantly loved the script when I heard it.
Tell us about your role as Satyabhama.
Malavika: It's a very modern, high-energy character with a lot of attitude completely different from the simple village girl roles I’ve played before. It’s the kind of versatile role every actress dreams of.
Did you do any special preparation for the role?
Malavika: Honestly, I didn’t do any specific homework. The character is very different from who I am in real life. Even though I don’t know Telugu, I was able to understand the emotions and perform accordingly.
How was your experience working in Telugu cinema?
Malavika: It was a very happy experience. Everyone from the technicians to the artists was extremely professional. Apart from the language, I didn’t face any difficulties. I felt very comfortable on set.
Was there any challenging scene during the shoot?
Malavika: Yes! I didn’t know how to swim, but I had to shoot a swimming scene. I was scared, but I didn’t want to delay the shoot. I faced my fear and did it it was scary but satisfying.
Have you started learning Telugu?
Malavika: I began learning Telugu during this film’s shoot. Now I can understand it. I also watch Telugu dubbed movies. Recently, I watched HIT 3.
How are the romantic scenes in the film?
Malavika: Even though the love scenes follow a common structure, they feel fresh in this movie. I’m sure the audience will really enjoy them.
Do you have a favorite song from the movie?
Malavika: I actually love all the songs. Even without knowing the language fully, I felt deeply connected to the music. I believe the songs will touch everyone’s heart.
What was it like working with Suhas and the team?
Malavika: Suhas is a very hardworking and focused actor. He’s not very talkative on set just focused on the film.
Working with directors like Harish Shankar and Maruthi was a great experience they’re both wonderful people.
Producer Harish was very generous and passionate he spent lavishly to make sure the film looks rich and beautiful.
Tell us a bit about your family background.
Malavika: I come from a non-film background. My family has been very supportive, though they were a bit worried in the beginning. Now, after watching the trailer, they feel proud and happy.
What do you consider while choosing films?
Malavika: I’ve received many offers, but I only take up roles that I genuinely like and that suit my comfort zone.
I started with Malayalam films, did Jo in Tamil, and now I’m debuting in Telugu with O Bhama Ayyayo Rama.
Are you open to glamorous roles?
Malavika: I don’t have any rules about doing or avoiding glamorous roles. If I like the story and I feel comfortable, I’ll do it. But if a role doesn’t suit me or I don’t connect with it, I won’t take it up.
