Q: How did you move from costume design to direction?
- Neeraja Kona: I've always had a passion for writing, even from my school days, and I published a book of poetry. I’ve always loved telling stories, and with the support of friends, I started to feel confident about writing for films. My experience in the film industry, working as a costume designer for almost a hundred films, was my learning school. Through that journey, I met people like Nithin and Sidhu, who supported my vision. Eventually, I was convinced I could direct this story. It's been a rewarding experience from start to finish.
Q: Can you tell us about Telusu Kada? What’s special about it?
- Neeraja Kona: Telusu Kada is a love story with a twist. It’s not just about the romantic connection but also about the complexity of the city and the emotions that come with it. The film is character-driven, with strong and honest characters that everyone can connect with emotionally. We haven’t revealed much in the teaser, but the trailer will showcase that this is truly a character-driven story.
Q: There’s often talk of female directors being biased toward female characters. How did you approach this?
- Neeraja Kona: For me, what matters most is whether the story is good, not whether it’s written by a male or female director. My focus is on telling an honest, compelling story. It’s important to be recognized as a filmmaker for your skills, not your gender. Sidhu added his own unique perspective to the script, which elevated the writing and brought a different depth to the characters.
Q: Sidhu’s DJ Tillu became iconic. Was it challenging for him to step into a completely different character like Varun in this movie?
- Neeraja Kona: Getting an iconic character early in one’s career is a blessing, and Sidhu is fortunate to have done that with DJ Tillu. I knew stepping into Varun’s character would be a challenge for him, but he did an amazing job. As a filmmaker, I could see Varun through Sidhu's lens. He brought a unique depth to the role, from his look to his mannerisms, and that made the character feel very authentic and strong.
Q: Can you tell us about Srinidhi Shetty and Raashi Khanna's characters?
- Neeraja Kona: Srinidhi’s character, Raaga, is very complex and multi-dimensional. She brought so much depth to her role. Raashi, on the other hand, plays Anjali, a character that is very unique and adds to the film’s emotional core. Both actresses did a wonderful job, and their performances are integral to the film's success.
Q: How about the music by Thaman?
- Neeraja Kona: Thaman is a family friend, and his music is the backbone of Telusu Kada. All the songs have been a huge hit, and the score complements the emotional depth of the film beautifully. He gave us a fantastic album, and I will always be grateful for his unwavering support throughout the making of this film.
Q: Any words about People Media Factory?
- Neeraja Kona: Without Vishwa Prasad and Kriti Prasad, Telusu Kada wouldn’t have been possible. Their unwavering support and commitment to the film were invaluable. They ensured that the film was made with no compromises.
Q: Can you share any details about your upcoming projects?
- Neeraja Kona: We’re working on a hard-hitting love story that will be announced soon. I’m excited to share more once everything is in place.
Q: Lastly, what do you hope the audience takes away from Telusu Kada?
- Neeraja Kona: I hope the audience connects with the emotions in the film. It’s a story about love, but more than that, it’s about honesty, vulnerability, and the complexities of life. I believe people will resonate with the characters and feel deeply for the story.
All the best for the release!
- Neeraja Kona: Thank you! I’m excited for everyone to experience Telusu Kada on October 17.
