Anushka Shetty Talks About Ghaati, Sheelavathi's Role – An Exclusive Interview

How does it feel to be making an action-adventure film like Ghaati in your 20th year in filmmaking?
It’s very exciting. The character of Sheelavathi in Ghaati is amazing. I’ve never done anything like this before. Sheelavathi is a character with many beautiful shades, and this film takes me out of my comfort zone. It's a strong role, just like the ones I’ve done in Arundhati, Baahubali, and others, but Sheelavathi has a different essence.

What was your reaction when you first heard the story of Ghaati?
When Krish and writer Srinivas narrated the story, I was immediately intrigued by the unique culture. After visiting the locations, I got even more excited to showcase a new character, culture, and visuals to the audience.

Ghaati features the issue of marijuana. What kind of impact does this create in the story?
Krish always chooses stories with social relevance. The marijuana element in Ghaati reflects a serious societal issue. However, we’ve made this an action-commercial entertainer with a positive message.

This is your first film with Krish after Vedam. Will it live up to the expectations of that collaboration?
Absolutely. We wanted to make a film that continues the spirit of Saroja from Vedam. Ghaati came at the right moment, and I’m thankful to Krish for always giving me wonderful roles. Sheelavathi’s character in Ghaati will stay in my filmography forever.

Ghaati was shot on the Andhra-Orissa border. How did you feel about shooting in remote areas?
Shooting in new locations is always exciting. There was physical hard work involved, but Krish planned everything well. It turned out to be a memorable experience.

How was it working with Vikram Prabhu?
I know Vikram from before, and I really liked his film Kumki. He’s a very nice gentleman and is perfect for the role of Desiraju in Ghaati.

What about the film’s cinematographer Manoj and music director Sagar?
Manoj’s camera work and Sagar’s music brought a fresh feel to the film. The music is like a character in itself. Krish’s lyrics, especially ‘Kundeti Chukka’, brought depth to the story.

What do you do in your leisure time?
I travel a lot, read books (I’m currently reading the Mahabharata), and watch movies. I’ve also been spending more time with my family over the last two years.

Is there a character you would like to play in the future?
I’d love to play a negative character. If a strong and compelling role comes my way, I would definitely take it on.

Are you listening to new stories for future projects?
Yes, I have a good lineup. I’m doing my first Malayalam film, and there’s also a new project coming up in Telugu that’s very interesting.

All the best
Thank you so much.
