PV Sindhu likely to miss All England Open due to West Asia travel crisis
Indian badminton star PV Sindhu is likely to miss this year’s All England tournament after being stranded in Dubai due to major travel disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in West Asia. With several flight routes affected by the escalating war situation, the former world champion has been unable to reach Birmingham in time for the prestigious competition scheduled to begin on March 3.

Sources close to the player confirmed that Sindhu had raised concerns regarding her travel plans well in advance, but the rapidly changing situation in the region left very limited options. With airspace restrictions and safety concerns affecting multiple Gulf routes, her travel arrangements could not be finalized despite repeated attempts by officials and support staff.

Coach Vimal said the shuttler was disappointed after preparing intensely for the tournament but had accepted the situation. According to him, alternative travel plans, including a possible road journey to another country for a connecting flight, were discussed but later ruled out due to safety risks. During her stay in Dubai, Sindhu continued training inside the hotel gym to maintain fitness, although the uncertainty around travel affected her preparations.

Badminton Association of India secretary Mishra stated that the federation remained in constant contact with the player but admitted that the circumstances were beyond their control. He added that the Badminton World Federation had shown understanding toward players facing travel difficulties and assured support wherever possible.

The situation has also impacted other competitors travelling to Birmingham, though some Indian players managed to reach the venue through alternate routes. Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and other members of the Indian contingent arrived in time, while Kidambi Srikanth, who was on the reserve list, could get an opportunity in the main draw if withdrawals continue.

With the crisis affecting international travel across the region, Sindhu’s participation remains uncertain, marking an unfortunate setback for one of India’s leading hopes in the tournament.
